1Not impressed with cornerstone. Our rendering started cracking / bubbling along the side of the property. This was well within the warranty but it took over a year for them to carry out the repair works which required 20+ phone calls from me, countless emails and threats of legal action for them to arrange a date to carry out the repairs.
Owner's reply
Thank you for your review Katy. We're disappointed with this feedback, as we did state throughout our communications with you that the repair works were weather dependent and would be therefore be scheduled during the summer, and once completed (for no charge) you expressed satisfaction with the repair. We will nevertheless take your feedback on board and hope your installation continues to meet your expectations.

1What can I say about Cornerstone apart from please choose another company for your project if you value your sanity and reputation. They give a very good presentation but, unfortunately that’s where the positives end. They were employed to replace the cladding on a nine-story building in Aldershot. Cornerstone promised a secure site, locked gated access for residents, professional contractors and care and consideration for the families living in the block during the invasive works. They did not fulfil any of these promises. Numerous residents ended up with huge holes inside their flats just from the scaffolding being secured to the side of the building. Sometimes it was impossible to get back into the building at all as work was being undertaken at both the front and back entrances simultaneously!!! The contractors were removing the existing cladding which contained polystyrene with no thought about trying to contain the mess. The wind was blowing the polystyrene everywhere to the point it was found streets away and on a local roundabout. As part of the project a lift was installed on the outside of the building to take the contractors and equipment to various levels. This lift would go up and down numerous times each hour on every day. The vibrations caused by the lift would cause the floor and walls to vibrate making large cracks appear in the internal walls of the flats. Once the cladding had been removed some flats were left open to the elements with no protection or insulation for months. Every single flat on the eighth floor subsequently suffered with water penetration and damp on a large scale. Our homes were left freezing throughout the winter months as they were impossible to heat. Cornerstone were not interested in any concerns the residents were raising and were very dismissive and condescending. Simple things like requesting the bike storage was not left open by the contractors was ignored on multiple occasions resulting in a resident having their bike wheels stolen. The way the project was handled by Cornerstone, and the complete lack of understanding or awareness of the needs of the residents created needless stress and delayed the project by months.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate all feedback and use it to try to improve on future projects. We are sorry if you feel our performance on your block did not meet your expectations, despite the works being delivered to the satisfaction of our client. In regards to the specific issues raised in your review, we would like to state the following: 1. Two of the fifty-two flats in the building were unfortunately breached by scaffolding poles by our subcontractor; these were immediately made good. 2. At no time were both entrances simultaneously blocked 3. The whole building was wrapped in netting to minimise polystyrene escape and the area regularly swept to remove any excess debris. These steps were considered sufficient by our client. 4. The hoist was a necessary piece of equipment, the use of which was minimised as far as possible; some vibration was unavoidable 5. A sequential system of removal and replacement to each elevation was undertaken to keep flats from being open to the elements. The nature of the project meant some flats were temporarily without insulation – dehumidifiers were offered during this short period and any initial formation of damp effectively treated. 6. In our initial resident presentation and in a follow up letter we asked that bikes be removed from the store 7. The project is on course to be delivered within the 18 month timeframe originally communicated to resident; a matter between one particular resident and the client outside our control has been the only issue to cause a significant delay. We would also point out that we have been rated ‘Excellent’ by independent inspectors from the Considerate Constructors scheme, which looks at respect for the community amongst many other aspects of our performance. If you would like to raise any further issues, we ask that you do so via our dedicated Resident Liaison Officer (whose details have been communicated to all residents), rather than via Google.

1Cornerstone are the most shambolic and unprofessional company I have ever come across. They were contracted to replace the cladding on a nine-story building in Aldershot as part of fire safety works. From the start they seemed to have a complete disregard for the residents living in the block of 52 flats. Contractors would stand on the scaffolding on the eighth and ninth floor yelling obscenities and sexual innuendos to fellow work mates on the ground below. This happened daily for months and was deeply inappropriate considering the number of children living in the flats. My private garden became a rubbish tip as the contractors would just throw crisp packets, fast food wrappers, drinks cans, water bottles and used tissues into my garden. Others would leave the rubbish dumped on the scaffolding to just fly into my garden at a later date. My garden was also used as an ash tray with over 50 cigarette butts picked up in just one 30-day period alone. More worryingly they would also throw balls of nails into my garden which was extremely dangerous considering I had children living at the property. The contractors would regularly block fire exits overnight on the eighth and ninth floors with large yellow rubble sacks. They disabled all the emergency lighting completely and left the fire exit walkway in complete darkness for months!! During one bank holiday weekend the whole building site was left open when someone forgot to lock up before they went home, and local children were using the space to play football. I frequently got woken up during the night by people wandering around the scaffolding on the eighth floor. I thought it must be a security guard checking the site was secure until I saw two random men swigging beer outside my kitchen window at 0430!!! The scaffolding was not secured correctly and in anything more than a light breeze the wooden planks would lift and smash into the side of my flat. Communication from Cornerstone was non-existent as they genuinely had no interest in helping the residents or dealing with issues arising from the work on site. It was like being gas lighted and the project has caused stress and upset to many different families. For information, I have timed and dated photographs of all incidents which have been submitted to the HSE.

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately we dispute your claims in their entirety. Cornerstone has delivered this scheme to the complete satisfaction of our client, Accent Housing, as well as having been rated ‘Excellent’ by independent inspectors from the Considerate Constructors scheme, which looks at respect for the community amongst many other aspects of our performance. This could not have been achieved if the performance you describe in your review was accurate. This is the second review we have now received from an anonymous first-time poster. If you are a genuine resident, we would encourage you to contact us directly via the contact details we provided at the outset of the scheme.

1They refused to insulate my mother's mobile home but they were OK doing the other 50+... apparently its the overhang but a family friend who owns a building company says its because they couldn't be asked to cut the tiles. Great job guys discrimating against a 70 year old because of who you know on the park... DISGUSTING! Dire.ct action coming at you soon
Owner's reply
Hello Squeaky, I'm afraid the scenario in your review is incorrect. The park home insulation work we are doing is funded by the government, via local councils. To comply with funding rules, we have to install insulation in line with PAS 2030:2019 standards, which dictate that we are not allowed to install external wall insulation on properties with insufficient roof overhang, which is unfortunately the case in the situation of your mother's property, and many others. Roof extensions have not been approved by the council as they do not have the budget for this and in many cases it's not technically viable - it is entirely out of our hands. We are sorry that your mother is not able to benefit from the insulation this time - we would prefer to insulate every home, especially where residents are vulnerable and in need. However, we are only able to complete works approved by the council and in line with regulations under this funding stream. We'd be very pleased to discuss this with you further - please email [email protected] to continue the conversation. Kind regards, The Cornerstone Team
