5Everyone at Ipsum renewables were really friendly and helpful. They saw us through installation of our solar panels and battery system with no problems and were happy to answer our (many, many) questions. Very happy with the service, quality of work and aftercare, would definitely recommend them in future.

5The whole team involved were very friendly, helpful and professional in all aspects of their work. It was a simple process to arrange a visit to discuss our needs and the advice/guidance given was excellent. The follow ups process to arrange a mutually agreed date was easy and carried out in a professional and friendly way. We were kept informed at all times with the installation date and times. On arrival all of the team involved in the installation were excellent. Very friendly, professional in all that they carried out on the day and left us with clear guidance and instructions to operate the system. We would most certainly recommend Ipsum Renewables to any of our friends and family. We were so glad that the company was recommended to us too.

2It came as a surprise to us that Ipsum Renewables have no bad reviews. Our experience has been very different. We had a whole retrofit to a 40 year old house replacing electric storage radiators with a Vaillant ASHP, 17 radiators and associated pipework. In our opinion they lacked understanding and knowledge of the system they fitted, failed to commission the system correctly which was signed off by an engineer not on site. After weeks of not getting the system working correctly including 3 occasions when the system totally failed (including Christmas Day) we felt we had no choice but to approach the manufacturer Vaillant who on each contact immediately identified and rectified the faults that Ipsum failed to recognise. There were many faults the main ones being (1) an over pressurised expansion vessel which likely led to the ASHP stopping on Christmas Day, 16 days after installation and never attended or acknowledged as a problem (2) failure to adequately insulate external pipework (in breach of Part L Building regs) which blew the AFVs when outdoor temperature fell to 3°C. We (and Severn Trent!) were repeatedly blamed for the problems in the system or that it was normal to experience what we were reporting. (3) Fitting the wrong PRV resulting in an intolerably noisy heating system and on the same site visit made the radiator balance worse than it was. Ipsum’s attitude and response was at times poor and extremely confrontational when meeting one of their owners face to face, where they refused to take any responsibility for the multiple errors and failures which we conclude is a result of their very poor understanding of how a Vaillant ASHP works and what can cause problems. Response to Ipsum: Ipsum continue to show a persistent lack of accountability. Issues are from the failure to commission the whole heating & hot water installation correctly. Signed off by a senior engineer not on site. 3.5 months later, we are still experiencing installation issues. Faults that led to the 3 ASHP failures were: over pressurised expansion vessel, inadequate external insulation. Faults identified & confirmed in reports by Vaillant site visits. Reduced mains pressure & flow rate following installation, due to Ipsum’s failure to replace the obviously rusty faulty mains water inlet PRV, not due to Severn Trent as they claimed We had rapid email responses but NO site visits following reports of ASHP stopping - 1st on Christmas day no support for 9 days, then email response, ‘as it hasn’t reoccurred’ it must be ok. 2nd failure response, ‘we’ll monitor the data’ despite needing to repressurise every 6/8 days. Considered ‘normal’ or ‘bedding in’. 3rd failure response(AFVs opened when outdoor temp fell to 3°C). Said, not possible, data from sensors showed temp of 14/15°C, they were inside the insulated ASHP. Badly insulated external pipework & AFVs exposed to outside temps, open at 3°C. Confirmed by Vaillant site visit. ASHP issues were NOT identified by Ipsum. No useful involvement by Ipsum with us or Vaillant as claimed. We independently approached Vaillant, they identified the causes of system failure & attended within 24 hours.Vaillant site visits identified & confirmed system faults indicated in data. We maintain Ipsum had a poor understanding of the ASHP they installed & lacked care and attention in the commissioning process. Video with sound is our heating system following Ipsum site visit, fitted wrong mains water inlet PRV & attempted to balance 17 radiators with a spanner, it didn’t go well. We complained by email, it was fixed, we were ‘told off’ in an extremely confrontational manner in our home for complaining by an owner Director as 'it was a 'family business’ Positives: reception, project manager, installers & one of the two owner directors have always been friendly, helpful & respectful. Heating pipework and electrical wiring installation was very good. In our opinion Ipsum senior engineers/owners let themselves and their staff down Mistakes can be made, all that was needed was acknowledgement and apology.

We are genuinely sorry that your experience of the project left you feeling this way, particularly as we understand how important it is for a new heating system to work properly from the outset, especially during the colder period. We care a great deal about both the quality of our work and the support our customers receive afterwards, so we feel it is important to add some context for anyone reading this review. When the issues were reported, we remained involved throughout and attended the property on multiple occasions while continuing to work alongside Vaillant to identify and resolve them. This was not a case of us walking away from the installation or failing to support the system after handover. We stayed with it and worked on it consistently until everything was operating as it should. As with many retrofit projects, there can occasionally be faults or adjustments required once a system is up and running. In this case, some of the matters raised included issues that were resolved with manufacturer involvement, rather than being the result of poor workmanship, and the system is now fully working with no ongoing issues that we are aware of. While we accept that the experience was frustrating, we do not accept the suggestion that we failed to support the installation, failed to take the issues seriously, or lacked care in how we dealt with them. We are a family-run business and take great pride in doing right by our customers, especially when something requires continued attention after installation. We are sorry that your overall impression of the experience is a negative one, but we are confident that we acted in good faith throughout, remained engaged week by week, and saw the matter through to a resolution. We wish you all the best moving forward.

5Great company, fitted a heat pump to replace my gas boiler. Engineers turned up on time and were very friendly. The company quoted 3 days to fit the heat pump, cylinder and 7 new radiators and worked really hard to complete on time. They came back two days later to check everything was working fine and took time to explain the settings for the system. I’d definitely recommend this company

5Brilliant company to deal with :) I have had a system with a 9KwH battery & 16 panels fitted on my house. The quote was the best by a mile compared to others for the system I have had installed. Great communication from beginning to system install. The chaps that installed the system were a pleasure to deal with & got it all done in one and a half days. No wonder they are busy as the service and product is top notch! In a world where there can be some crazy solar quotes (I was quoted £17k elsewhere for a smaller system than the one from Ipsum) Ipsum are just reasonable and honest which is what you want whenever having work done on your home. Would recommend to anybody considering solar on their home or business! (Will update the review with pictures once the scaffolding is down)

5We have a large, Victorian, double fronted, detached, home with a with a separate Spa &Swimming Pool Complex and an additional self-contained Granny Flat/Annex. We researched companies who might provide us with Air Heat-source pumps and commissioned 3 competitive quotes. We are subscribers to Which Magazine and Which recommended Ipsum Renewables, who were local to us.(There would appear to be a number of less professional and less knowledgeable companies out there, so be careful.) From start to finish, Ipsum provided by far the most professional service of any of the companies that we contacted, and their Directors involved themselves in the quoting, specification and installation process, providing us with additional confidence in their company. Ipsum undertook the Government BUS grant application (Boiler Upgrade System) which paid around 50% of the total costs of upgrading. We had 10 Ipsum Heating Engineers and 5 large Vans, at the house every day for 5 full days, (and we had to rely on electric heaters meanwhile, whilst our old gas boiler was removed and replaced and there was a bit of redecorating and joinery to be done after they had finished, but nothing that we had not been forewarned of.) The whole the team was friendly and helpful and everyone was busy all of the time. We had to replace 18 radiators and have 3 Heat Pumps in total, but the house is now toasty warm, 24/7, with constant and plentiful hot water at a sensible running cost. The guys have been back to see us since installing and they have helped us to re-programme our electricity use (remotely and in person,) to make best use of the best Octopus money-saving tariffs. Many thanks to everyone at Ipsum. I would have no hesitation in recommending Ipsum to anyone who wants a professional and effective boiler replacement system.
