Who is eligible?

Since April 2022 the grant is available to:

  • Renters in private or social housing (with landlord permission)
  • Flat owners (owner-occupiers in purpose-built or converted flats)

Homeowners in single-family houses are no longer eligible for this grant. You must also have a dedicated off-road parking space where the charger will be installed.

What does it cover?

The grant covers the purchase and installation of a single OZEV-approved smart charger. The charger must be from the approved product list, must be smart (able to respond to time-of-use tariffs), and must be installed by an OZEV-registered installer. The £350 is deducted from the installer's quote — you pay the remainder.

How to apply

  1. 1Find an OZEV-registered installer — only registered businesses can apply for the grant.
  2. 2Choose an OZEV-approved charger from the approved product list on gov.uk.
  3. 3The installer submits the application on your behalf before installation.
  4. 4On approval, the installer deducts £350 from your invoice and claims it from OZEV.

2026 updates

The OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant is ongoing for eligible applicants. Always verify current eligibility and the approved product list on the gov.uk grants for low emission vehicles page, as the approved installer and product lists are updated regularly.

Common questions about OZEV EV Charger Grant

Why was the grant removed for homeowners in houses?

The government decided homeowners in single-family houses had sufficient commercial incentive to install chargers without a subsidy, given rising EV adoption. The grant was retargeted at renters and flat owners who face greater barriers (shared buildings, landlord consent) to installing a charger.

Can I get the grant as a renter without my landlord's permission?

No. If you're a renter you must have written permission from your landlord before the installer can apply for the grant. The charger belongs to the property, not the tenant, so landlord sign-off is required.

Do I need an EV to apply?

You must own or lease an eligible EV or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) to qualify. The grant is not available for people who don't yet have an electric vehicle.

How long does the installation take?

A typical home EV charger installation takes 2–4 hours once the equipment has been ordered. Most OZEV-registered installers can complete the survey and installation within 1–2 weeks of your application.
